arrow Ireland and Northern Ireland's Population Health Observatory
INIsPHO is housed within the Institute of Public Health in Ireland . INIsPHO aims to support those working to improve health and reduce health inequalities by producing and disseminating health intelligence, and strengthening the research and information infrastructure on the island of Ireland

arrow Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO)
APHO represents a network of 12 public health observatories (PHOs) working across the five nations of England , Scotland , Wales , Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland . APHO produces information, data and intelligence on people's health and health care for practitioners, policy makers and the wider community. APHO's expertise lies in turning information and data into meaningful health intelligence.

arrow East Midlands Public Health Observatory Health Intelligence Network
The East Midlands Public Health Observatory (EMPHO) is one of nine regional Public Health Observatories funded by the Department of Health in England .  EMPHO is the regional health intelligence organisation providing information and analysis to support those working to improve health and reduce health inequalities in the East Midlands . The EMPHO Intelligence Network is a Forum for Public Health People who are happy to share their expertise, interests and questions with colleagues.

arrow Radical Statistics
The Radical Statistics Group, usually abbreviated to Radstats, was formed in 1975 as part of the radical science movement associated with the establishment of the British Society for Social Responsibility in Science (BSSRS). RadStats is now independent of any other organisation. Members are 'radical' in being committed to helping build a more free, democratic and egalitarian society. Members of Radstats are concerned at the extent to which official statistics reflect governmental rather than social purposes.

arrow Welsh Health Analysts Network (WHAN)
The Welsh Health Analysts Network (WHAN) was established during Spring of 2006 following the demise of the PIE (Public Health Information & Epidemiology) group, which gathered every quarter to discuss and share good practice amongst the Welsh analyst community. The WHAN provides an opportunity to share knowledge in the health information and intelligence community across Wales . The network is comprised of the leaders of teams across different organisations in Wales . Its aim is similar to the former PIE group, but with a CPD element, where specialists are invited to present to the Network on their areas of expertise.

Irish data sources

arrow Central Statistics Office Ireland (CSO)
The CSO is the Government body responsible for compiling Irish official statistics. It provides data and information on methodology.

arrow Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA)
NISRA p rovides basic economic and demographic information for Northern Ireland . The agency also maintains the civil registry.

arrow Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA)
ISSDA aims to ensure a wider access to both Irish and international datasets. It holds an ever-increasing quantity of machine-readable data from surveys and official statistics (such as the Census) and makes them readily available to users in the academic, public and commercial sectors. 

arrow INIsPHO eData
The INIsPHO eData system is designed to meet a wide variety of user needs by providing access to aggregated data and the tools to analyse it. The INIsPHO eData system contains tables of pre-calculated information as well as datasets in which users can create their own population subgroups by as well as defining what indicators they want and calculate these for their chosen population subgroups

Case Studies

arrow Cardiac Telemedicine in Primary Care
In Cumbria and Lancashire the Strategic Health Authority (now part of NHS North West) funded by development money from the then Directorate of Access and Choice at the Department of Health worked closely with Broomwell Healthwatch, a company that had already developed a telemedicine ECG interpretation service, to audit the use of this new technology in various primary care settings. The aim of this work was to establish whether there were any benefits to be gained from this new way of working.
